Today’s diesel engines require diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) to help reduce harmful emissions and protect the environment for future generations. Traditionally made with 32.5% urea and 67.5% deionized water, diesel exhaust fluid works to improve fuel efficiency and reduce nitrogen oxides (NOx) and other air pollutants. When injected into the exhaust stream, diesel exhaust fluid will create ammonia molecules, which will then be transported to the catalytic converter. Once in the catalytic converter, the ammonia will turn NOx molecules into nitrogen and water vapor, creating cleaner diesel emissions.
