Hurricane Prep for Businesses

Hurricane season is upon us. As residents of South Louisiana, we must annually prepare for the unpredictable scenarios that can arise during hurricane season, which officially runs from June 1 to November 30. And as a business, you can’t afford to take a gamble. With proper preparation, you can ensure your business stays up and running in the event of a hurricane.

Here are a few tips to keep in mind during this year’s hurricane season:

  1. Develop a comprehensive crisis plan. The plan should include communication procedures for alerting employees, clients and customers about your status during and after the storm. Create email templates and communications in advance to save time if a crisis should arise.
  2. Line up your emergency power sources, such as generators and fuel providers, prior to the start of the season. In addition, make sure you test your equipment each year to maintain optimal performance.
  3. Review insurance policies at the beginning of each year to ensure your business is protected with adequate coverage.
  4. Make arrangements for alternative storage spaces to protect your office equipment, files and vehicles in the event that your office is prone to flooding.
